Jesus Rebuked His Disciples for Being Slow to Believe

Luke 24:25-27

The two disciples talked about certain women who went early to Jesus’ tomb and returned with the good news that He was not there. He was alive. Since the apostles were astonished and did not believe them, certain of them went to the tomb and returned with the same good newsreport as the women.

Then Jesus rebuked his disciples for being slow to believe: “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken” (v.25)! It was as if He was impatient with them due to their disbelief. Yet, we know that God sent Jesus to be our Savior; therefore, He patiently waits for us to know Him and believe His word which is truth. His disciples were miraculously blind and didn’t know who He was. Because they were slow of heart to believe the truths Jesus had prophesied to them while He was still in Galilee and all that the prophets had spoken, this revealed they were spiritually blind also.

Didn’t you know that the Messiah would have to suffer before he was given his glory” (v.26)? Jesus’ question indicated that He had to suffer to enter into His glory. His death and resurrection confirmed He was the Son of God who would fulfill God’s plan of salvation. Understanding the Scriptures and having faith in them is important because they reveal to us the total identity and mission of Jesus. So, He explained to them the things concerning Himself found in all the Scriptures beginning at Moses and all the Prophets (v.27).

Lift your voice and shout “Glory!”
